On a tragic day in 2026, Charles Henry Amissah, a vibrant young man with a bright future, lost his life following a severe road traffic accident in Accra. Charles was only 29 years old. He was a beloved son, brother, and friend whose life was filled with kindness, resilience, and promise.
After the accident, emergency responders fought to keep him alive. However, despite their efforts, Charles faced a heartbreaking reality that far too many families in Ghana encounter — difficulty accessing timely emergency care when every second matters. The delays and barriers that occurred during those critical moments ultimately cost him the chance to survive.
Charles’ story is not unique. Across Ghana, many lives are lost each year not because injuries or illnesses are unsurvivable, but because people cannot access emergency medical care quickly enough. Ambulances arrive, but hospitals may be full. Patients are moved from facility to facility. Precious minutes become hours. And families are left with unimaginable loss.
Charles’ death exposed a painful truth: access to emergency care can mean the difference between life and death.
In response to this tragedy, the Charles Amissah Emergency Care Foundation was established to turn grief into purpose and advocacy into action.
The foundation seeks to ensure that what happened to Charles does not happen to others. Through advocacy, education, and partnerships with healthcare providers and policymakers, the foundation works to strengthen emergency response systems, promote accountability in emergency care, and support lifesaving training and resources across Ghana.
Charles’ life continues to inspire a movement dedicated to protecting the lives of others. His story reminds us that every second counts, every decision matters, and every life is priceless.
With the support of partners, donors, and advocates, the Charles Amissah Emergency Care Foundation aims to build a future where no family loses a loved one simply because emergency care was out of reach.
Together, we can transform loss into lasting change.
