About us

Turning grief into purpose, and advocacy into action

The Charles Amissah Emergency Care Foundation is a Ghanaian non-profit working so that every person can reach lifesaving emergency care in time.

Who we are

Born from one family's loss. Built for every family's future.

Founded in memory of Charles Henry Amissah, we work to make sure no family in Ghana loses a loved one simply because emergency care was out of reach.

Through advocacy, education and partnerships with healthcare providers and policymakers, we work to strengthen emergency response systems, promote accountability in emergency care, and support lifesaving training and resources across Ghana.

Vision

To create a Ghana where every person has timely access to lifesaving emergency medical care, regardless of location, circumstance, or financial status.

Mission

To improve emergency healthcare systems by promoting accountability, supporting training, and advocating for equitable access to medical services.

Aims & objectives

Five commitments in our Constitution

Adopted by our founding members on 20 March 2026, these charitable purposes guide everything we do.

  1. Advocate for improvements in emergency response systems across Ghana.
  2. Promote public awareness regarding emergency medical care.
  3. Facilitate training programmes (e.g. Basic Life Support) for healthcare professionals and the public.
  4. Conduct research to reduce preventable deaths due to delayed emergency care.
  5. Collaborate with governmental and non-governmental agencies.

Leadership

Dr. Matilda Amissah

Founder & Executive Director

Dr. Matilda Amissah founded the Charles Amissah Emergency Care Foundation in 2026 to turn the loss of Charles Henry Amissah into lasting change. As Executive Director, she leads the Foundation's day-to-day work: its training programmes, partnerships and advocacy for timely, accessible emergency care across Ghana.

Governance

Accountable by design

We ask for accountability in emergency care, so we hold ourselves to the same standard. Our Constitution sets out how we are governed.

Board of Directors

Three to nine directors serving three-year terms, responsible for staff, assets and policy.

Clear officer roles

A Chairperson, Executive Director, Secretary and Treasurer, each with defined duties.

Independent audit

An independent qualified auditor reviews our accounts every year. Bank mandates need two signatories.

Conflict of interest

Directors and members declare any interest and step back from related decisions.
