From the first session on triage and resuscitation principles to the final round of supervised CPR practice, our Emergency Preparedness & Safe Referral training was built around one idea: skills you have practised are skills you can use under pressure.
Facilitators walked participants through recognising a deteriorating patient and the immediate actions that should follow, before the hall broke into practical stations. Adult and infant manikins, bag-valve-mask devices and stethoscopes lined the tables as participants took turns compressing, ventilating and coaching one another.
Every participant left able to deliver high-quality chest compressions, and with a clearer picture of how to refer a patient safely.
Safe referral formed the second half of the day: stabilising before transfer, calling ahead to confirm the receiving facility is ready, and handing over in a structured way so nothing critical is lost.
We are grateful to every facilitator, volunteer and participant who made the day possible. See the photos in our gallery.
